Event: Poverty Initiative goes to Albany with Domestic Workers United
On February 10, Poverty Initiative members traveled to Albany to support the Domestic Wokers United Bill of Rights Campaign and met with key legislators with other supporters to ask them to support the proposed bill of rights legislation.
Domestic Workers United is engaged in a campaign to promote new legislation in the State of New York to ensure basic employment rights for nannies, maids, and elder care workers, who are excluded from basic employment rights under existing laws. They have built this campaign over the last four years and have made a lot of headway. With the new Obama administration, DWU has declared that this is their year -- the bill to be passed in Spring 2009!
