October 22, 2009: The Poverty Initiative hosted a Town Hall Meeting with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing Raquel Rolnik on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Union Theological Seminary to discuss concerns on public housing, social housing, homelessness, and the foreclosure crises in the United States.

June 23, 2009: Poverty Initiative Supports Installation of Rev. Cathlin Baker
Poverty Initiative members, Colleen, John and Myles Wessel McCoy, Liz Theoharis, Paul Chapman, and Gayle Irvin, attended the installation service of Rev. Cathlin Baker as Senior Pastor of West Tisbury Congregational Church and helped to organize and lead a congregational retreat leading up to the installation. Read the story in the Vineyard Gazette. April 23-May 1, 2009: Domestic Workers Week of Action
Domestic Workers United (DWU) is an organization of Caribbean, Latina and African nannies,housekeepers, and elderly caregivers in New York, organizing for power, respect, fair labor standards and to help build a movement to end exploitation and oppression for all. DWU held a Week of Action from April 23 to May 1 to pass the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights! Learn what you can do to support DWU! April 18, 2009: United Workers Declare Baltimore Harbor Human Rights Zone
On Saturday, April 18, 2009, the United Workers (UW) and their supporters marched through Downtown Baltimore to the Inner Harbor where UW announced the first target of a new Human Rights Zone campaign. The day's events started in Carroll Park with the B-More Fair - a collaborative celebration consisting of an array of Baltimore organizations from labor to faith-based groups. The march route ended at the Inner Harbor - an area that has been developed as a tourist destination featuring numerous restaurant and bar chains and entertainment venues. At the Inner Harbor, UW announced Phillips Seafood restaurant as the first target within the Human Rights Zone. March 21, 2009: Scotland's First Poverty Truth Commission
Moving testimonies from Scotland's First Truth Commission are now available on video. On March 21st, 2009, grassroots individuals and groups told the truth about poverty. Paul Chapman, founding member of the Poverty Initiative, was a lead organizer of this event, modeled after Poverty Initiative Truth Commissions. David Lunan, Moderator of the Church of Scotland hosted. Poor leaders testified to the violations of their economic human rights that are a direct result of living in poverty in the UK.
